Embark on an Extraordinary Journey with Memorable Chimpanzee and Gorilla Experiences in Uganda.

Experience the Thrill of Chimpanzee Tracking

Uganda stands out as a leading destination for observing wild chimpanzees in their natural environments. The top spot is Kibale National Park, celebrated as the “Primate Capital of the World,” where over 1,500 chimpanzees reside along with a vast array of other primate species. Other notable tracking locations include Kyambura Gorge within Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kalinzu Forest, and Budongo Forest. Each trek commences with an informative morning briefing, followed by a guided journey through verdant tropical forests, attuned to the sounds of the chimps. Once the chimps are found, participants can expect to spend approximately an hour observing their natural behaviors, such as feeding, playing, grooming, and social interactions. Smaller group sizes and habituation sessions facilitate extended, intimate encounters, enriching the understanding of these remarkable primates.

Due to limited availability, chimpanzee tracking permits are in high demand, especially during peak times (June–September and December–February), making advanced reservations crucial. The trekking experience typically spans 2–4 hours across moderate terrain, with visitors encouraged to don long clothing, sturdy footwear, and to carry rain gear, water, and insect repellent. Full-day habituation experiences offer a unique glimpse into activities such as nest construction and foraging. This unparalleled adventure not only provides guests the chance to observe chimpanzees in the wild but also contributes to conservation initiatives and benefits local communities in Uganda.

    Gorilla Trekking experience

Uganda presents a truly remarkable wildlife adventure: tracking the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural rainforest environments. The primary trekking sites include Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, where visitors can observe gorilla families closely with the assistance of skilled rangers and trackers. Each trek initiates with a morning briefing, followed by a trek through lush forests to find a gorilla group. Once located, participants enjoy approximately an hour of observation of these magnificent creatures, including silverbacks, mothers with young, and energetic juveniles. For those desiring a deeper connection, gorilla habituation experiences allow for extended time in the forest with researchers, as gorillas gradually adjust to human presence.

Permits for gorilla trekking are very limited and highly sought after, particularly during peak seasons (June–September and December–February), so it is crucial to book well in advance. Treks can range from 2 to 7 hours over moderate to challenging terrain, necessitating a reasonable fitness level. Visitors should wear long attire, robust boots, and bring rain gear, water, and insect repellent. This unforgettable journey enables guests to observe rare, intimate behaviors of mountain gorillas while contributing to Uganda’s conservation efforts and local communities.
